Short bio: Jaroslaw Szlichta aka Jarek Szlichta is an Assistant Professor at University of Ontario Institute of Technology and an IBM Centre for Advanced Studies (CAS) Faculty Fellow. Prior to that he has been a Postdoctoral Fellow at University of Toronto. His research concerns data science, big data analytics, machine learning, and data curation. He has achieved the goal of building practical data integration and business intelligence systems. He is a recipient of the prestigious CeBIT Business Award (the largest computer expo) for the work on the OCEAN GenRap analytics reporting tool. His research grants are from both government (NSERC, MITACS, SOSCIP) and industry (IBM). He has contributed with many peer-reviewed data analytics and data management top-tier journal and conference articles, as well as he has chaired the AMW School on foundations of big data management. He has received the PhD degree from York University while he has spent a 3-year fellowship at IBM CAS in Toronto. He is a recipient of IBM Research Student-of-the-Year award “for having insights and perspective that has significantly contributed to IBM in a matter of great importance”.
